Xiaomi has taken on surprise with their recent smartphone flash sales on
Flipkart, now it continues to step into new markets. The Chinese smartphone
major that recently has taken over Samsung to become China’s top smartphone
maker is now trying to put its hand into action cameras market, traditionally
dominated by GoPro.
The Yi Action Camera, which has a price tag CNY 399 (roughly Rs. 3,900) is,
however, which is very much cheaper than the entry level GoPro Hero - $130
(roughly Rs. 8,000). With its 16 megapixel this camera records video at
resolution of 1080p (60 frames per second), which uses Sony’s Exmor R BSI CMOS
image sensor. On paper, this is a completely copy the Hero, which records video
at a resolution of 1080p at 30 frames per second and features a comparatively 5
megapixel camera. It’s also got enough memory (64 GB to Go Pro Hero’s 32GB), it
is lighter – which weighs only 72 grams to GoPro compared to Hero’s 111 grams
and has slightly bigger battery. Like the GoPro Hero, it’s rated for usage up
to 40 metres deep to water. There’s even a marginally more costly Travel
Edition, which involve a selfie-stick mount, and with the correct accessories,
you can possibly mount the Yi onto anything, as shown in the picture above
(even on the back of cat).

Unluckily the camera is unfortunately only available in China currently, and
can be purchased currently from the Mi.com store offered you can read the
Chinese script. However, it may take a while for the product to sell out of
China, as is the case with a lot Xiaomi’s offbeat products.
